Person County Release Meanings
A release from the Person County Detention Center is a custody transaction. It may be a return to the community after bond, dismissal, a court order, credit for time served, or completion of a local sentence. It may also be a handoff. A person can leave the jail for another county, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, the United States Marshals Service, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Those outcomes all end Person County's physical custody, but only some place the person back in the community.
The sheriff holds the best local evidence of the physical exit. A court file explains the legal cause, while NCDAC records state prison and community-supervision events. VINELink mirrors status supplied by a participating agency. It is useful for notice, but it is not the certified release record. Person County Release Routes
The reason for release determines the next useful record. Bond keeps the case open. Dismissal may end one charge while another hold remains. Completion of a county sentence differs from release from state prison, and both differ from a federal or immigration transfer. Person County has not published a local code list, so these terms describe fields to request rather than codes guaranteed to appear.

A current list answers who is confined now. Once the jail removes a name, the documentary release entry, court case, or receiving system becomes more useful than repeated roster searches.
Person County Release Record Fields
A focused entry-and-release request should tie the exit to the right custody episode. Some facts may be split among an arrest sheet, release order, pretrial agreement, and jail summary. Person County does not promise that every field appears in one public document. Ask for existing records that contain the fields rather than asking staff to create a new report.

A booking photograph can be requested with the same episode, but state law does not guarantee that every booking photo must be disclosed. Medical, juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, and protected identity material may require redaction or withholding.
Request Person County Release Records
The official county public-records form routes to Person County NextRequest. Address the request to the Sheriff's Office or Detention Center. A narrow request is more useful than asking for every record about a name because it identifies the booking and the precise exit facts at issue.
- Give the full name, known aliases, date of birth if known, and an approximate booking and release range.
- Add the booking or case number and identify the Person County Detention Center episode.
- Ask for the entry-and-release summary, arrest or booking sheet, commitment and release orders, and any pretrial agreement.

- Choose electronic delivery and ask for an estimate before chargeable work.
The county publishes no sheriff-specific copy fee or fixed response period. Under N.C.G.S. Chapter 132, copies must be supplied as promptly as possible. An uncertified copy ordinarily cannot cost more than direct reproduction, though extensive use may support a service charge. Section 132-6.2 also says an agency need not create a record that does not exist.

Person County Release Retention
North Carolina's county sheriff retention schedule places entry and release summaries, arrest sheets, commitment and release orders, work-release records, and pretrial agreements within inmate incarceration records. It authorizes destruction three years after release or transfer unless an audit, legal hold, or other rule applies. That is not a promise of online access, and it does not mean each old record was destroyed on the first eligible day.
Chapter 132 covers records made or received in public business. Section 132-6 calls for inspection at reasonable times and copies as promptly as possible. The agency bears the cost of separating confidential material from public portions. If a field is denied, ask for the statutory basis in writing and request the nonconfidential balance with redactions.
Expunction is a court process, not a release event. North Carolina courts explain that an expunction can remove and seal or destroy covered state records. Eligibility depends on the case. A private copy does not vanish on its own, so stale copies should not be used to reconstruct an expunged matter.

Start with custody type. For a county jail stay, call the Person County Detention Center at 336-597-0525. Give enough detail to avoid a name-only match, then ask whether the person is confined, released to the community, or transferred. If released, ask for the date and time. If transferred, record the destination before choosing the next locator.

Why the name is gone: A current jail list is for people still held. Release, transfer, exclusion, lag, or correction can remove a record.
NCDAC Person County Release Search
The NCDAC criminal-offender search page covers state prisoners, probationers, parolees, and history back to 1972. It expressly excludes county-jail records. Use it for a Person County case only when the person entered North Carolina prison or Community Supervision. A county-only booking belongs with the sheriff.

Open the detail and compare identifiers before relying on a date. Admission, sentence, accomplished release, projected date, and supervision events are different fields. The dedicated Offender Releases search browses by Person County and year or month, but the county value is a state database field. It is not a Person County jail release feed.

Person County Recent Release Limits
The official Person County Sheriff's navigation has a Detention Center page but no public current roster, released tab, booking-photo archive, or rolling release feed. No official 24-hour or 72-hour county jail list was found. This is a local finding, not a blank to fill with a third-party booking grid whose update rules and release meanings are unknown.
The practical same-day route is the detention number, followed by NextRequest for the historical entry. The Person County 24-Hour Releases page explains this fallback and the separate NCDAC state-release browse. A state result does not prove release from the county jail.
Was a missing name released? Not necessarily. Ask whether the event was community release, transfer, or a data change, then seek the destination field.
Person County Release Supervision
Leaving prison can begin post-release supervision rather than end a sentence. The NCDAC form has an Active Probationer-Parolee filter. Read the status and supervision history, then confirm unclear office data through Community Corrections. An official Person resources document lists the Roxboro office at 105 South Main Street and 336-599-3611, but the directory's age makes a current check prudent.
Probation is a court-ordered community sentence or condition. Parole applies mainly to eligible older-law prison sentences. Person County Release Notifications
NC SAVAN, accessed through VINELink, supplies status and event notices from participating county and state sources. Search the person, match identity, and record the reporting agency and exact status wording. A release alert is evidence about that source's custody only. It may describe a transfer, and it does not rule out a new booking or another custodian.
Registration options can include phone, email, text, and TTY. A telephone registration uses a four-digit PIN. Entering it during the automated call acknowledges the notice; without acknowledgment, repeat calls may continue for 24 hours. Always confirm a county event with the sheriff and a state event with NCDAC.

Each system proves only the event it records. Read the source boundary before drawing a broad conclusion from one status.

The BOP locator can display RELEASED and a past release date for federal prisoners after 1982. That does not show the end of supervised release. ICE's ODLS covers current detainees and, according to ICE, people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. USMS has no general historical public person locator.
Person County Bond Release Paths
Person County publishes three bond routes on its official Detention Center page: retaining a bondsman, posting cash, or using Person County property for a property bond. The jail page describes a bondsman's fee as 10 to 15 percent. It directs a person dealing with a property bond greater than $19,999 to contact the Clerk of Court. These details describe how a person may leave pretrial custody. They do not show that the charge was dismissed or that the case is complete.
After bond is accepted, confirm the actual exit with the jail. A bond event may appear before release processing ends. Another case, warrant, detainer, or transfer instruction can keep the person in custody. Ask whether the person left for the community and request the release time and destination. The sheriff record supplies physical timing; the court case supplies the bond terms and later events.
Person County eCourts Release Clues
Person County joined the statewide eCourts system on April 29, 2024. The eCourts Portal accepts party, case or record number, citation, attorney, business, and cross-reference searches. A case may show dismissal, judgment, credit for time served, probation, a commitment or release order, and later violation or termination events.
The court record explains legal authority, not always physical timing. Dismissal of one charge does not rule out another hold. A time-served judgment can satisfy one sentence while another commitment remains. Compare the court event with the sheriff release entry. When Portal lacks a needed document, the Person County Clerk or Criminal Division at 105 South Main Street, Roxboro, and 336-503-5200 is the court-record fallback.

Travel After Person County Release
Person Area Transportation System is a real county option, but no official source calls it a jail shuttle. Its demand curb-to-curb service follows published weekday terms and requires a request before 11 a.m. on the prior business day. Same-day service is not available. That makes PATS more useful for a planned pickup or later appointment than for an unexpected evening or weekend release.
PATS lists 336-597-1771 and 303 South Morgan Street. The Roxboro Shuttle may help with planned local travel, but no source says it stops at the detention center. Verify the release destination before arranging a ride. A transfer to NCDAC, USMS, or ICE is not community travel and should be followed through the receiving custody system.
Person County Release Facility Map
The Person County Detention Center is the only confirmed adult detention facility now operating inside the county. No current state prison was found in Person County. The former Person Correctional Center building is used as Dan River Prison Work Farm's Roxboro Satellite Training Center, while the active prison is in Caswell County. The former site is not an inmate locator.
